Funnel Your Way to Marketing Success

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Michael Daehn A funnel is a good way to think of the marketing process. The top is very broad and consists of using mass marketing techniques. Mass marketing includes items like mass mailings, national advertising, billboards, and airing commercials during the Super Bowl. The marketing message is sent to a broad audience with little or no discretion. Mass marketing is very expensive, difficult to evaluate, and has a low return on investment. Mass marketing is a stab in the dark, like trying to find needles in a haystack. The next section of the funnel narrows the target audience into market segments. The communications still appeal to a large audience, but they are at least targeted to a specific market segment by means of the chosen media. Cat Fancy magazine, ESPN, and the Oxygen website each target a specific segment of the market: cat lovers, sports enthusiasts, and women, respectively. Next, we narrow the target audience further into niche or specialty markets. Harley Davidson, Barbie, and Macintosh computers each appeal to a specialty area of the market. The bottom of the funnel is the customized or one-to-one area of the funnel. The consumer being on a first-name basis with the product or service provider often characterizes these markets. Mike the mechanic, Bill the barber, Doc Baker are all one-to-one relationships in which the customer and service provider know each other personally. Through the use of technology and mass customization, these relationships can be available on a wide scale such as in the case of the My Yahoo! page. ROI ROI stands for return on investment. Every one of the techniques in the funnel will gain customers. The question is which technique will provide the greatest return on investment. A Super Bowl ad is sure to create interest and generate new customers, but at what price? The same amount of money spent at the bottom and targeted directly at ideal customers will produce a much greater return on investment. Two benefits of targeting the bottom of the funnel are the likelihood of a positive response and the kinds of relationships that are established. Relationships on the bottom of the funnel are more committed and not easily broken. One-to-one customers form the bedrock, the foundation, for any successful product line. These people are not likely to change to a competitor due to the mutual commitment they feel between themselves and the brand. Customers at the bottom of the funnel can and should become your best marketing tool. They are positive multipliers that spread the word to friends and family. There are three levels of the one-to-one section: the customer, the referent, and the advocate. The customer will continue to buy the product and not switch to the competition. The referent will continue to buy the product and will tell others about the product when asked (give referrals). The advocate will continue to purchase the product, will actively promote the product, and will convince others to buy it. The goal of every marketer is to gain advocates for the product. To summarize, the top of the funnel is the most expensive with the least return on investment and the least amount of consumer loyalty, while the bottom of the funnel is the least expensive with the greatest return on investment and the greatest amount of consumer loyalty. Getting consumers to the bottom is the goal. Marketers should always be guiding their consumers to the bottom of the funnel where the costs are less and the relationships are stronger. Take it from the Top Why would anyone market to a mass audience at the top of the funnel? There are three reasons marketers come in from the top of the funnel: lack of education, sloth, and lack of opportunity. The majority of people marketing products do not know anything about the marketing funnel. If you know anyone that needs to be a more effective marketer, I urge you to advocate this book to him or her. Millions of dollars are spent because that is just the way things have been done in the past, or that is what companies see from their competitors. If you want to lead the market, then innovate instead of imitating. On the other hand, some people are too lazy to work on building these types of relationships with customers. Often it is easier to pay for a television commercial or a billboard than to figure out how to establish one-to-one relationships with thousands of target customers. The final reason is lack of opportunity. Sometimes when marketing a new product, it is necessary to enter the market from higher up in the funnel. If this is the case, steer your customer relationships down the funnel as quickly as possible. For example, if you must enter the market by means of a national newspaper advertisement, link the ad to a customizable website or some other tool that allows the relationship to develop further and reduces the need for future mass marketing efforts. Sit Down To Plan Your Wedding

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Eric Hartwell When planning your wedding, one of the first things that you need to do is to decide exactly what type of wedding you need. Although many people decide on a theme, this is not really necessary at least in the early stages. But an overall feel is something that you will want to decide with your partner. It may be that you wish to have quite an upscale, up-market type of wedding where everything is of good quality and presentable in the extreme. On the other hand, you may prefer to have something that is more functional and practical and which reflects your own particular lifestyle. You may wish to have an underlying plan which is quite laid back and jovial. Perhaps something that is easy on the eye and which encompasses the thoughts and feelings of the group of guests as a whole rather than just the individuals that are planning the wedding. Whichever you wish, it is wise to sit down with your partner and seek each others opinions. You may be surprised as to what the other person is thinking and exactly how they wish the wedding plans to evolve. Why not each sit down with an A4 sheet of paper and write down what things you think are important to a successful wedding and which reflect your own ideals and desires? It is remarkable how often people do this and realize that the other person wasnt thinking exactly what they were expected to think! By doing this, it is easier to reach a compromise situation that will encompass the thoughts and feelings of both of you plus any other people that you decide to include in the planning process. By having a clear goal and target, you will be able to plan your wedding better. Dont be afraid to seek the views of others and to ask how others would do things differently if they were in the same position. Electrolysis - Answers To Frequently Asked Questions

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Mike Jones What is electrolysis? Electrolysis refers to the destruction of hair roots with an electric current. Three types of electrolysis are: 1) Galvanic, 2) Thermolysis and 3) Blend. 1) Galvanic Electrolysis A DC current passing through the needle causes a chemical reaction in the hair follicle which produces sodium hydroxide, also know as lye, which destroys the hair follicle. 2) Thermolysis Electrolysis An AC current passing through the needle causes vibration in the water molecules surrounding the hair follicle which produces heat. (Similar to the principle behind a microwave oven.) The heat damages the hair follicle. This method is much faster but less reliable than galvanic electrolysis. Thermolysis is also known as ’short-wave radio frequency diathermy’. 3) Blend Electrolysis This method tries to combine the benefits of the galvanic and thermolysis methods by passing an AC and a DC current through the needle at the same time. It is much quicker than the galvanic method. How does electrolysis work? Very fine metal probes are inserted into the hair follicle. A small electric current is then applied which destroys the hair root. Each hair has to be treated individually. (See item above for description of various electrolysis methods.) How much does electrolysis cost? Usually there is a rate per hour. Get an estimate of how many hours are required for your particular problem and then multiply it by the rate per hour. A cheap hourly rate does not necessarily mean lower cost if the electrolysis procedure takes longer than it should! Quotations for electrolysis can vary from $25 to $100 per hour. Is electrolysis painful? This depends on the individual’s level of sensitivity. Some describe the discomfort from electrolysis as being similar to using tweezers. Others complain of excessive pain during electrolysis treatment. A qualified electrologist will be able to suggest methods for minimizing the discomfort. How long does electrolysis treatment take? The time needed for electrolysis treatment varies greatly from person to person. Factors such as the size of the area to be treated, the curvature of the hair follicle, the level of skin sensitivity, hormonal balance and heredity all have an effect. Electrologist Fino Gior, author of Modern Electrology, gives these estimates: Upper Lip 4-10 hours Chin 2-12 hours Sideburns 4-8 hours Eyebrows 3-8 hours Underarms 4-12 Arms 5-10 hours Bikini Line 8-16 hours These estimates are based on averages taken in the U.S.A. and Canada at clinics performing electrolysis treatment. They will vary from person to person and should only be taken as a rough guide. Note: For 44 years Fino Gior has researched the Permanent Hair Removal Industry. During that time he has become a Consumer Advocate fighting for the welfare of the inquiring patient. His professional ability as a full time electrologist is well established all over the world. He received the highest and most prestigious honor in the profession, November 1985, the Charles E. Michel, M.D., Award, by the International Guild of Professional Electrologists. (Web site: electrolysisinformation.com) What is the effect of electrolysis on the skin? If the electrolysis procedure is performed by a fully qualified electrologist, the tissue surrounding the hair follicle should not be damaged. Electrolysis should therefore be safe when performed at a reputable clinic by trained personnel. Obvious precautions to note when going for electrolysis: The electrologist should wear gloves and use disposable, pre-sterilized needles to minimize the risk of infection. Temporary side effects from electrolysis may include some redness and swelling, dryness and scabs. If the electrolysis procedure is not carried out by professionals, there is the risk of permanent skin damage resulting in a scarring or pitting of the skin. How long do electrolysis results last? Electrolysis is often viewed as a permanent hair removal method. Once the hair root is destroyed, the hair will not grow back. There are exceptions however. In some cases hair does regrow in places after electrolysis treatment and clients need to return once or twice a year for a cleanup. Hair can continue to grow in the underarms, pubic area and around the nipples during a woman’s reproductive years. As level of expertise varies in different countries and even in some states in the U.S.A., it’s important to check the credentials of the individual performing the electrolysis. Flower Garden in Urban Environment

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Kenneth Elliott Small Flower Garden planning in a urban environment involves planning in a scarce environment. That is why it’s important to know what to look for in that nook, niche, or corner. When creating that secret flower garden there are a few things to keep in mind. First thing to consider in creating a flower garden is the choice of earth on which to begin your task. The Flower garden will have to be simply a suitable plot with suitable conditional. When you don’t have much room at all the basic choice becomes no presence of earths bounty or a neatly organized small plot on which to produce the flowers and food you desire. What kind of spot are you looking for for your flower garden? In the higher order of wants and needs, sun needs to be your deciding factor of spots. You don’t want to maintain a north plot, unless it were absolutely forced to you. Why? Because of too much sun light. Now a northern exposure might be okay for certain strong strains of flowers in your flower garden or perhaps ferns, they are really not much use as spots for a domestic flower garden. Now, the right conditions would be a plot with southern exposure, if you can get it. Here the sun lies cozy all day. Once you’ve identified the plot and begin to plan out how it will be planted, your rows of vegetables and flowers should run north and south. Planting your flower garden this way will allow your plants to bask in the loving warmth of the sun all morning on the eastern part and all the afternoon on the western side. Enjoy your new flower garden! Kenneth Elliott is the owner of Flower Garden, Japanese Garden and Designer Handbags websites. Discover your gardening skills today. Ten Amazing Ways To Increase Attraction at a Trade Show

Friday, August 24th, 2007

By Catherine Franz These ideas are for anyone that has a small budget to work with or is just starting to expand into exhibiting at trade shows. You can even use these tips and techniques whenever you are speaking or presenting — at Toastmasters, delivering workshops — or even eLearning activities. 1. Have a visual point at your booth — like a power point show or a television with a video playing. Put together a workshop video, even if it isn’t professional quality. People will usually not look at it more than three minutes before they feel conspicuous and will approach you. 2. Have a picture album with success stories and pictures. Especially great for independent professionals selling a intangible product. Pictures of workshop attendees having fun and doing various projects or eating together or a Christmas party in your office with your clients is very connecting and attractive. Please like to belong to things that they perceive as “successful.” 3. Have a drawing for something that is valuable and attractive to them. Don’t give away something laying around your office or something that has your ego attached, this very unattractive. 4. Candy bowl. One they have to reach deep. Don’t fill it up, let it look like there isn’t much left — that is even more attractive. They want to reach in before it’s all gone. They will take less too (chuckle)> 5. Hire a model with brains and a marketing background to assist you. Someone “very attractive.” 6. Do what they do in grocery stores, demonstrate how to use your product. Wear a mike and have a small speaker attached. Buy the headset mike like professional singers use. The connection to that alone will attract (second chuckle). 7. Wear clothes with your logo. Name tags are great for participants but displaying your logo or name is important for building your brand. If you can’t afford to have them done, create your own. There are transfer materials made for your ink jet printers (see your office supply store), find some nice shirts/blouses, and go create. 8. Don’t just stand behind the booth, go in front of the booth and mix and mingle. 9. Stand up behind the booth with a smile. If you get tired go sit somewhere else and have someone there that has an attractive approachable energy. Rule of thumb is to rotate the energy every 30 to 60 minutes. 10. Display your web site name big and bold in the background. Make the name a different color than the “www” and the “.com”. Here’s a bonus for you. How about going in with another one-person business and sharing the costs. One that I like to use, is to work with someone like does chair-massages. It is a big attractor to people. Oops, let me slip in another tip — let’s call it a super bonus — for getting this far in your the reading and in your mindset. If you are a shy person, a dead way to sell at a trade show, hire a trade show presenter. A trade show presenter is experienced at attracting people to your booth. Their fee may seem expensive, and I said I was going to keep these tips in the inexpensive realm, yet then if your ROI gains from it, it will pay for itself. And these experts on presenting at trade shows will pull in the people all the time. Find someone training for this type of work and you might even be able to barter. Was Jesus a Historical Figure?

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By Jerry Richard Boone Eyewitnesses of Jesus What about Jesus? Was he an authentic historical figure? Eyewitnesses Matthew, John, Peter, Paul, James , and Jude say he was. These men claim they knew Jesus. They weren’t just casual acquaintances either. Peter, John, and Matthew lived with him for several years, right up to the day he died. Day in, day out, they traveled with him; talked with him; ate with him; heard his teachings; saw his miracles; and at least in the case of John, saw his execution. Two of these disciples wrote extensive works detailing the events in the life of Christ and frequently quoted his words. Two others, James and Jude, were very likely brothers of Jesus. Paul, who wrote almost half of the New Testament epistles, said he met the resurrected Jesus. The profound effect this had on Paul, “the road to Damascus experience,” has become the byword for a dramatic turnaround in anyone’s life. Paul, then known as Saul, had been the leader of Christian persecution. He quickly became the most influential Christian evangelist of the first century. A more radical change is hard to imagine. Paul credits it to his personal encounter with Jesus. Secondhand Witnesses In addition to the eyewitnesses, two prominent secondhand witnesses also wrote accounts of Jesus. Mark recorded the apostle Peter’s reminiscences of Christ. Luke, traveling companion of Paul, informs us that he conducted a thorough investigation of all the witnesses and evidence available to him before he wrote his detailed account of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Firsthand eyewitness reports are by far the most valuable and reliable evidence - ask any historian or lawyer. But a proliferation of secondhand information also confirms Jesus’ existence. Church leaders such as: Polycarp, Eusebius, Irenaeus, Ignatius, and Origen wrote about him. Christians, in fact, gave the most compelling evidence. During the first three centuries A.D., an untold number of Jesus’ followers were burned, crucified, or thrown to wild animals when they refused to deny their faith. Who would willing die for someone who did not even exist? Outside of Christianity, we find that friend and foe alike knew Jesus as a historical figure. In his book, A Ready Defense, Josh McDowell lists among others: three historians, one governor, one satirist, a prisoner, and several hostile Jews, all from antiquity, mentioning Jesus. Other Historical Evidence of Jesus Historians Flavius Josephus, a Jewish historian born A.D. 37, wrote his Antiquities in the early part of the second century. He gives us a very favorable report on Jesus calling him a wise man, a doer of good deeds, and a teacher of truth. A Roman historian by the name of Cornelius Tacitus lived about A.D. 52-117. He wrote Annals, a portion of which dealt with the life and times of Emperor Nero. In an attempt to allay suspicion, Tacitus writes, Nero falsely accused Christians with starting the fire in Rome. He punished them with “exquisite tortures.” “Christus,” the historian reminds us, “the founder of the name, was put to death by Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea in the reign of Tiberius.” What Tacitus calls “the pernicious superstition” was repressed for a time, but broke out again and spread across Judea and on to Rome. Consequently, this unsympathetic historian confirms both the life and death of Jesus and the rapid spread of Christianity despite persecution. Tacitus also refers to Christianity in his Histories when he discussed the destruction of the Jerusalem temple in A.D. 70. Another early Roman historian, Suetonius, served as a court official under Emperor Hadrian. In A.D. 120, Suetonius wrote The Life of Claudius. Therein he says: “As the Jews were making constant disturbances at the instigation of Chrestus (Christ), he expelled them from Rome.” And in a second reference, Suetonius confirms Tacitus’ report on Nero: “Punishment by Nero was inflicted on the Christians, a class of men given to a new and mischievous superstition.” Governor of Bithynia Plinus Secundus, better known as Pliny the Younger, was governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor. In A.D. 112, he wrote Emperor Trajan requesting the emperor’s policy on Christians. Pliny wanted advice on whether he should execute all Christians or only certain ones. Pliny’s letter provides us with several bits of information about the early Christians living in his district. They believed Jesus Christ was (is) God, and they assembled one morning each week to worship him. Part of their service included a pledge to refrain from “wicked deeds.” Specifically, they vowed to never commit fraud, theft, adultery, falsify their word, or deny a trust. Satirist Three historians, a governor, and a satirist all offer written evidence that Jesus was a historical character. The satirist was Lucian of Samosata. He was considered one of the greatest writers of revised Greek literature in the Roman empire. This second century Syrian born author took a decisively dim view of both Christ and Christians. In his manuscript The Passing Peregrinus, he identifies Jesus as “. . . the man who was crucified in Palestine because he introduced this new cult into the world.” As for Christians, “They deny the Greek gods and worship that crucified sophist himself and live under his laws.” Lucian also mentions Christians several times in his work Alexander the False Prophet. Acts of Pontius Pilate What about Pilate? Do you suppose he ever produced a report on Jesus’ trial and crucifixion? Apparently, he did. Justin Martyr, a philosopher and early Christian apologist, wrote to Emperor Antoninus Pius about A.D. 150. He made a reference to Pilate’s report which he assumed must still be available to the current governor. Justin told Antoninus Pius: “They pierced my hands and feet are a description of the nails driven into his hands and feet on the cross; and after he was crucified, those who crucified him cast lots for his garments, and divided them among themselves. These things are recorded in the Acts of Pontius Pilate.” Prisoner And then there is Mara Bar-Serapion. This Syrian born prisoner wrote a letter about A.D. 73 to his son. In his letter, Mara observes that those who persecute wise men pay for their actions. He illustrates his point with the deaths of Socrates, Pythagoras, and Christ. “What advantage did the Jews gain from executing their wise King? It was just after that, that their kingdom was abolished. The Jews, ruined and driven from their land, live in complete dispersion.” But Mara notes, the teachings of their wise king live on. Jewish Talmud Jews did not completely ignore Jesus either. References to him are scattered among several sections of the Jewish Talmud. Between A.D. 70 and 200, Jews developed a code of religious jurisprudence called the Mishnah. The Gemaras, a separate body of commentaries on the Mishnah, was composed during and after the same period. Together both works are called the Talmud. In these writings Jesus is variously called: Ben Padera or Ben Pantere, or Jeshu ben Pandera or Yeshu of Nazareth. The Talmud offers this explanation for Jesus’ crucifixion. “Yeshu of Nazareth . . . hath practiced sorcery and beguiled and led astray Israel. Let everyone knowing aught in his defense come and plead for him. But they found naught in his defense and hanged him on the eve of Passover.” Another passage calls Jesus “a bastard of an adulteress.” Still other accounts allude to his disciples. Obviously, these Jews are no friends of Jesus. But his historic reality is not questioned. In fact, it is taken for granted. The evidence is overwhelming and conclusive. Firsthand eyewitnesses, apostles, disciples, apologists, martyrs, several ancient historians, plus a governor, a satirist, a prisoner, and a number of unbelieving Jews all put it in writing. Jesus was a real man. He lived and died. Modern scholars and historians agree. Kids And The Terrible Two’s

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Lyn Leckie Have you ever looked at your two year old and thought gee was I this bad as a kid? Did I put my parents through this? Is this a normal kids behaviour or did I spawn Damien? Well the answer is simple yes all kids give their parents grief at some time or another some worse than others. Ask your parents what you were like as a kid and they will tell you probably alot of things you did that you dont even remember some of it you will look at your own kid and say to yourself gee my poor parents and have the overwhelming urge to thank them for all the patience they showed when raising you. As much as kids can drive you completely crazy at times. They can melt your heart with a certain phrase or a look or you have this overwhelming feeling of love when you see how angelic they look when they are sleeping. The trick is to not let your kids realise what the triggers are to melt your heart or they will have you wrapped around their finger and have you standing in stunned silence as they throw themselves on the floor in a screaming heap or kick and scream at you all the way to the car while out shopping, home from the park, in time out after some embarrassing incident with another kid at play group or at a play date. Kids respond to consistency and to rules as much as people think this is not the case it is. No matter how funny something inappropriate your kid does might look at the time you need to resist the urge to laugh at all costs as this leaves the door wide open for your kid to do this again and wait for you to laugh. If the second time your kid does the same thing and you dont laugh it leads to confusion and anger for the child because today they cant do the behaviour but yesterday you found it extremely funny. Time out is a very good tool even for the terrible two,s your kid and most other parents kid’s have gone through behavioural problems during the 2 year old stage. One minute for every year is the most recommended time for time out for all children. You might think that two minutes wont teach your kid anything and they will still behave in the same way but it does work. To a two year old kid two minutes unable to do anything is like a lifetime and with perserverence you will succeed. It won’t make your two year old kid an angel but it will make life a little easier for both you and your kid. Discover Secrets, Surprises & Skeletons with Family History Research

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Jane Biddulph Have you ever seen a family pedigree? Names and dates in elegant script winding back through time. If you are like most people your family doesn’t come with a ready made pedigree. If you love puzzles maybe it is time you delved into the world of genealogy and family history. Digging into the past to discover your family roots is a puzzle that could keep you busy for quite awhile. Genealogy is the study of lines of descent. Family history, includes genealogy, but goes into biographical research of your ancestors lives. It involves the study of the times and places where your ancestors once lived. It is what puts “flesh on the skeleton” of the data produced through genealogical research. Along with finding an appreciation for the years of history and geography studied at school, the family history researcher develops many abilities. Among these are deciphering handwriting, the operation of microfiche and microfilm readers, knowledge of obsolete medical terms and occupations, and the ability to recognise the words birth, marriage and death in numerous languages. Where does one start their research? No monetary investment is required at the beginning of this hobby, but beware … it is very addictive and there will come a time when you will need to invest some dollars in order to progress. Are you ready to start? Get a pad of paper and a pen. Write down everything you currently know about your family, using yourself as the central figure of your study. Work backwards, making notes of what you know about your parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins … any relatives you can remember. Establish as completely as possible the basic genealogical facts; 1. full name (use the maiden name for the women) 2. approximate dates for vital events (birth, baptism, marriage, death, burial) 3. the location of these events After you have identified everything you know about your family tree, you can start to gather missing pieces. Now is the time to chat with family members. Compare your memories with those of your siblings, parents, cousins and grandparents. Get out old family photos and go through them together. This can sometimes stimulate memories. Older relatives can provide a treasure trove of knowledge. When you have exhausted (literally) all your relatives, it will be the time for you to begin your hunt in the myriad resources available. A good place to venture first is your local library for books on family history research. Planning at this point will be essential. You now have newspapers, military records, directories, indexes, electoral rolls, vital records, church records, court records and probate records … just to name a few … to find. Familiarise yourself with the available resources, including the Internet. There are many great sites on the net that will be valuable to your research. Some are only accessible by subscription but there are tons of great sites with information … for FREE!!! The trail you follow will be your own choice. If you love puzzles the satisfaction you will feel as you unearth your ancestors, will eclipse that of any other puzzle you have ever solved. Happy hunting. When Good Looks Aren’t Enough

By Kelly O’Brien Even seasoned experts have to face the harsh reality that great work can’t protect them from having to market. Marketing and sales are life skills essential for survival. If you want to do what you love, heres what it takes to get past that first date. Back to School For many professionals, findingyourself at the bottom of the revenue learning curve is a frustratingexperience. To make matters worse, your target buyers are on a steep learningcurve about what you can do for them. The key is to enlighten both yourself andyour buyers. Knowing how to market and sell, then skillfully applying thisknowledge to your buyer is what will get you there. There are four stages to climb on yourjourney - picture a staircase or ladder, with one stage on each level: Clueless. You don’t know what youdon’t know. This often manifests as frustration with your buyer why dontthey get it?! Cant they see youre the best? For your buyers, it could be thatthey don’t know you exist or that they see little difference between you andyour competitors. Ignorance can be bliss, but it won’t get you more business. Anxious. You’ve become aware thattheres a lot you dont know. Reading this article could move you to thisstage. Witnessing a colleague or competitor win a contract that you missed outon could do it. For your buyer, this could happen if you do a free needsassessment, or send a short case study illustrating client successes they’venot been able to achieve on their own. Bottom line: you’re more motivated toclose the gap between your current state (in pain) and your desired state(pain-free and successful). Confident. Armed with new knowledge, you feel more confident. With some effort, coaching, courage to try new things, and smallsuccesses, you get better results. It takes effort to do the right things, butyou’re on your way. For your buyer, this stage means they see “What’s InIt For Them” to do business with you, are confident you can solve theirproblem better than anyone else, trust that you’ll not let them down, and see aclear path of action to get their needs met. Competent. Like tying your shoes, this is when it feels natural and easy. You’re probably here in your chosenprofession. With the right approach and accumulated successes under your belt, you’ll get here with marketing and sales. Its a blissful place to be and willget you more business than you ever thought possible! Brains and Beauty Facing your “revenue reality”can be a tough pill to swallow. To make it easier, give these things a try: Increaseyour knowledge. Read articles about marketing andsales that you might not normally bother with. Attend a talk or workshop aboutmarketing or sales that typically wouldn’t make it into your schedule. Exposeyourself to new ideas and differentknowledge. Pickone new idea and try it. Start small, get somesuccesses under your belt, keep moving. Aim for one new revenue action everyweekthen every day! As you start experiencing betterresults from your actions, you’ll noticea shift. It won’t feel like such a burden. It’ll feel like a natural partof what you do. It won’t be “someone else’s job.” You’ll actuallystart to enjoy it. Bepatient with yourself and the process. Youdidn’t become an industry expert overnight, nor will you become a greatrainmaker instantly. If you really want the freedom to do the work you love, you’ve got to commit to the life skill of funding your passion for the longhaul. Don’t let naivet or arrogance stand in your way. Marketing and sales are notabout hustling, twisting arms, misleading, or shameless promotion. Theyreabout solving buyers problems and sharing what you know, in a way thatconnects with and empowers them to choose wisely. Next time youre tempted to rest onyour laurels (and not get out of your comfort zone), reconsider. Marketing maynot be as difficult as your chosen profession, but it’s still a stretch formany. Your willingness to try new thingsthat most others won’t puts you ahead of the other fish in the sea! (c) TurningPointe Marketing, Inc.
